Veterans Day 2021: Honoring all who served

The Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) honors all Veterans and partnered with the Avery Dennison Foundation as part of this year’s recognition of Veterans Day.

In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I.

Now known as Veterans Day, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs centered this year’s recognition on the centennial commemoration of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with the theme, “Honoring All Who Served.”

Avery Dennison Challenge Coin
For the third consecutive year, VERG is recognizing those who served by distributing challenge coins to our Avery Dennison veterans.

Avery Dennison Challenge Coin

Historically, military commanders give these pocket-size medallions to service members as a mark of camaraderie in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. A commander’s unique coin carries symbols and mottos denoting the organization, unit or office. Traditionally, a coin might be given to prove membership when challenged, as well as to enhance morale.

Semper Servientes
The design of this year’s Avery Dennison challenge coin highlights the company values of courage, teamwork and excellence, all which bear close resemblance to the values of the various branches of service. Specifically for this year, a winning blackjack hand subtly denotes the year 2021, the U.S. Space Force logo was added as a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, and the Latin phrase Semper Servientes shares VERG’s motto, “Always Serving”.

Avery Dennison Foundation and VERG partner as a force for good
In addition to recognizing employees who served, VERG partnered with the Avery Dennison Foundation to give back to the veteran community. A $25,000 donation was given to the Wounded Warrior Project, a program focused on mental health services for veterans. The donation will go toward helping the organization carry out its mission to bring independence back to our nation’s most severely wounded veterans.

Thank you to all of our service members for your sacrifice in protecting the American way of life.
